Statische websites kwam je vooral in het verleden tegen en waren simpele, eenvoudige websites. Het was het ‘online visitekaartje’ van het bedrijfje of van de lokale slager of bakker met daarop de bedrijfsgegevens.
Statische websites zijn opgebouwd uit html, CSS en javascript en kunnen alleen aangepast worden door een programmeur die verstand heeft van deze manier van programmeren. Statische websites maken geen gebruik van een database.

Dynamische websites zijn websites die continu worden aangepast. Dynamische websites maken gebruik van een database waardoor het mogelijk is om de inhoud op te slaan. Dynamische websites bevatten een CMS (content management systeem) waardoor het mogelijk is DAT de klant zelf eenvoudig aanpassingen kan uitvoeren of pagina’s bij voegen.
Dynamische websites zijn flexibel en kunnen snel inspelen op nieuwe ontwikkelingen. Dynamische websites met een goed cms (zoals WordPress) zijn eenvoudig en onbeperkt uit te breiden met de meest complexe functionaliteiten.
